What could be better than a stroll to the pier via a fish and chip shop?

The kids especially enjoyed a few hours in the arcade working together to win enough tickets so that each of them had a keepsake, drinking jug as a momento of a fun family weekend by the sea. We enjoyed a couple of fairground rides and a group session on the bumper cars before heading back to the hotel for a celebratory birthday supper.

We stayed at Caxton House last year to celebrate my oldest brother's birthday and as we enjoyed it so much we found another excuse this year to return and hang out again together - an 18th birthday!

So over to my family's catch up antics....

Well, my family's plans for a get-together for a celebration this year have not been on the same scale as my husbands family for which we have travelled to Canada and India in the past year for weddings. However, a birthday weekend in a wonderful hotel called Caxton House in Skegness enabled three generations of my family a chance to spend some quality time together. I have three brothers and one of them discovered Caxton House through his scouting contacts. It is a rare opportunity that we all manage to meet up with our families as one brother has lived in Hungary for at least 20 years.

OHANA means family (Hawaian).

Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.

The seaside is the perfect place to collaborate as a family. We played team sports and then embarked on a huge project of moat and castle building with inter-generational support. A gully was built to fill the moat with water which then flooded until a drainage system was built. It was a great family team effort with even the youngest being able to feel useful. After a tiring but satisfying morning on the beach in the fresh air we headed off for an afternoon on the pier.

In the words of Albert Einstein:

'Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life'

The food was fab from the breakfasts to the evening meals, thanks to Wendy and Paul. They have the perfect calming accommodation within minutes walk to a lovely, large quiet expanse of beach. There are plenty of rooms to escape allowing some time away from the buzz of the large family gathering if needed. There was also a great lounge where we played Pictionary, the girls being pitched against the boys.  The weekend also gave us the opportunity to plan another outing for next year. We are thinking more extreme: a mile long zip-wire experience in Wales!

I think it is important to not loose momentum with our plans as a family community as  building bridges between the generations  as the family expands and having shared memories helps bond a strong family community of support and companionship.
